World Book Day, March 2006
Celebrate World Book Day 2006 with public libraries...
Public libraries working with their reading partners always have lots of special events and activities going on around World Book Day . You could have a Quick Read in an unusual place, Spread the Word about your favourite books, chat with an Author or Storyteller and have a go at winning a Quiz or Competition. There are also lots of special activities for Children and Young People and even Parties! Find your local library around World Book Day and you'll see lots going on. You can also celebrate World Book Day with public libraries by discussing your books and reading with a new reader2reader service.

6 Book Challenge
For: Emergent readers but open to all adult library members
Description: Participants will be encouraged to read 6 books from the First Choice collections with particular emphasis on the Quick Read titles.Prizes will be awarded throughout the challenge and will include pens, bookmarks, multimedia vouchers and certificates. The prize for completing the challenge will be the choice of one of the Quick Read titles which will be presented at a Reader’s Day. Everyone taking part will be registered onto the Challenge and will receive a First Choice Reading Diary which will be used as their personal reading record. There will also be opportunities to recommend and review titles for other borrowers.

Description: On World Book Day, libraries in Shropshire are Spreading The Word of reading by featuring people reading on the day. There will be some unusual people in unusual places – a builder on the site of the new library in Oswestry, a knight in armour on the walls of Ludlow castle. Schools in Shropshire are being encouraged to have short readings on the day in assemblies and in classes. Local school children are visiting Bishops Castle library on World Book Day with a visit from children’s author Alix Nathan.

Murderous Maths Roadshows

Party!

Description: To celebrate World Book Day and the launch of RaW Passions, the Central Library is holding a party!
Story readings will be held at 12.15, 1.15, 4.00, and 5.30pm.
After the last story reading session borrowers will have a chance to read on an open mike session, compered by Alan Sparkes of the Shaggy Dog Storytellers. This session will last until closing time and refreshments will be served.
A quiz, matching book endings to titles will be organised, with prizes. Short pieces will be read out over the intercom through out the day (tied in with the quiz). The Party will include a treasure hunt and short story competition.
The official launch of Bookstart will take place on World Book Day 10.00 – 11.30 in the Central Children’s Library. Favourite stories with nursery children will take place in the afternoon. Everyone welcome, come and join in the fun!
