Read for staff
These pages tell you more about Read services and how library services can contribute to them.
Read helps people to get more from books and reading. It lets people share their reading with other people, either on the web or through public libraries, and it also lets people explore lots of useful websites about books and reading. Read enhances the unique relationship and tradition that libraries have with books and reader development.
There are three main services within Read:
- reader2reader for the sharing of books and reading online
- Find a reading group for the sharing of books and reading through public library based reading groups
- Reading links for people to further explore books and reading through the web
Read will also promote the 2 year BBC led RAW campaign and it’s activities, which public libraries are partnering.
In the future we hope to develop single point access to bibliographic library catalogues through Read.
New poetry toolkit
The online Poetry Archive, launched November 2005, is being supported by libraries through a toolkit which The Reading Agency have developed to raise the profile of poetry in libraries, kick-start (or develop) poetry reading groups, mount displays to show off and extend poetry stock, and choose poets for live events.
