Formats of downloadable resources
This page contains information about what file formats are available for downloading in the staff room and how you can obtain relevant freeware online, should you need it, to access such files.
Word documents
Where possible documents are made available in Rich Text Format (RTF) for portability across different software platforms. Due to their large file size, however, some documents are provided in Microsoft Word Document format (DOC). Download a free Microsoft Reader for PCs in order to access DOC files.
PowerPoint presentations
PowerPoint (PPT) presentations are made available in Microsoft PPT or Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) formats. If you do not have MS PowerPoint installed on your machines, you can either access presentations in HTML format or download a free PowerPoint viewer from the Microsoft website.
Image files
Image files in the Marketing online toolkit are available in a variety of formats to cater for their application in either print or web contexts.
Print-ready files are available in CMYK colour and Monochrome (black and white) EPS formats.
Files for web use are available primarily in GIF format although a set of EPS versions is available should you need them.
A degree of knowledge and software availability is assumed in order for you to be able to apply and use these image file formats in-house. You will, for example, need to have appropriate image editing and creation software and the skills to be able to resize and adapt files locally. EPS files, for example, should be imported (not opened) into applications such as Word if you do not have specialist software and skills to use them.
If you do not have the necessary software or knowledge to do this in-house, you are advised to either speak to your corporate IT or communications teams for assistance, or outsource this work to appropriate design companies. Further guidance is provided in the marketing and promotion section.
Zip files
The PN marketing toolkit is downloadable in a compressed zipped format. If you are unable to unzip the contents of the folders, you can download free software to enable you to do so from freebyte.com or the Stuffit Expander from Stuffit.com.
